Instructions
Complete the following information.This petition is intended for students who wish to petition for course substitutions, exceptions to School policies, or other requests not covered by the other forms listed on this site. You will be notified via e-mail once a decision has been reached. Submit this form along with any supporting documentation.

You must submit a completed Undergraduate to take a Graduate Level Course form as in order for you request to be considered complete.

Your statement of support must speak to (1) why do you want to take the graduate level course, (2) how do you plan to be succesful in the graduate level course, and (3) how do you plan to balance all courses you are enrolled in.

Note: the form must be signed by the instructor of record of the graduate level course.

Students requesting to take course(s) during fall or spring semester at another institution while also enrolled at UC Merced must complete the petition. Students must submit unofficial transcript(s) of the institution they are enrolled in; failing to submit an unofficial transcripts will result in the petition not being processed.

Statement must include an explanation on why the course(s) is being attempted outside of UC Merced and how student plans to be succesful in UC Merced and non-UC Merced course(s).

Student requesting to earn credit for course(s) completed during fall or spring semester at another institution while also having been enrolled at UC Merced, must complete the petition. Students must submit an unofficial transcript of the institution they were enrolled in; failing to submit unofficial transcript(s) will result in the petition not being processed.

Statement must include an explanation on why the course(s) were completed outside of UC Merced and why this petition was not submitted prior to enrollment at the other institution.

For course substitutions, students must submit the course syllabus of the course they plan to use as substitution.

Students that have a minimum 3.0 overall/cumulative GPA, or a 3.3 GPA in their last completed term (not including Summer) and wish to enroll in up to 20 units for Fall/Spring, or 16 units for Summer, please submit your request via the SSHA Petition for Excess Units form.

Your request will not be reviewed, as the SSHA Dean cannot make decisions for Campus-Wide GE requirements. To submit your request, please visit the GE Student Request Forms page, ensuring to thoroughly read all directions, as some requests will not be considered.

If UC Merced students are currently enrolled in a course at Merced College or plan to enroll in a course at Merced College during the next Fall/Spring term, a completed Intersegmental Cross-Enrollment (ICE) form must also be submitted with this petition. Please be sure to include the Merced College course on section C of the ICE form. Failing to submit the ICE form will delay the review of this petition.

Your statement of support must speak to (1) why you are unable to complete the course at UC Merced and (2) how you plan to be succesful in completing UC Merced and Merced College courses.

Note: Request for credit, for coursework completed at Merced College during previous terms (i.e. a final grade has been earned), must be submitted by selecting the Retroactive Concurrent Enrollment option of this form.

When completing this section, provide general description of reason/situation for request in no more than 250 words.
