Academic Reentry

Academic Reentry Plans

When you're ready to return to UC Merced into a School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts major, your first step is to set up an academic reentry plan with one of our Degree Completion Program academic advisors. Your advisor can review your unique situation and increase the likelihood that your application for reentry will be approved.

Submit your request for your academic reentry plan through ssha.advising@ucmerced.edu and include the following information:

  • Full Name
  • UCM ID Number
  • Preferred personal email address (non-UCM email)
  • Intended Major
  • Any completed coursework while away from UC Merced or any currently enrolled coursework
    • Please provide screenshots or a PDF of unofficial transcripts of any completed or current coursework
  • Community College you would prefer to take coursework at

For specific information on the academic reentry application process and deadlines, please visit https://registrar.ucmerced.edu/policies/academicreentry

Minimum Requirements for Academic Reentry

If you left the university in poor standing (academically dismissed or on academic notice), you need to meet the following conditions to be considered for reentry into a SSHA major:

  1. Complete at least 24 semester units (36 quarter units) of UC-transferable coursework at an accredited institution of higher education
  2. Earn a cumulative transfer GPA of at least 2.7
  3. Complete your courses with no grade less than a "C-" for those units. All courses must be taken for a letter grade.

Generally, students will not be admitted into a major until they have completed, at a minimum, the equivalent of WRI 001, WRI 010, and the required courses for reentry into the major, as outlined below.
If your catalog year is prior to Fall 2018, please confirm with a Degree Completion Academic Advisor whether your intended reentry major is available and which courses are required for reentry.
