Summer Coursework at Other Institutions

Summer is a good opportunity to take additional coursework to maintain or speed up your academic progress at UC Merced. Before enrolling in coursework over summer, see your Academic Advisor to determine the applicability of potential coursework to your program.

California Community Colleges

ASSIST.org
ASSIST is an online student-transfer information system that shows how course credits earned at one public California college or university can be applied when transferred to another. Utilize this website when looking to find courses to take over summer at a community college. Note: Only lower division courses are offered at community colleges.

Other UC, CSU and Private 4-year Universities

If you are interested in taking a course at another UC, CSU or Private 4-year University, discuss your course selection with an Academic Advisor prior to enrollment.

Math and Science Course Articulations

The School of Natural Science has a large database of approved course equivalents at community colleges and other UC or 4-year institutions. Check out their webpage for information: http://ns-advising.ucmerced.edu/registration/summer

Important Information about Transfer Credit

  • All courses must be taken for a letter grade. In most cases, grades of C- or better must be earned in order for credit to be awarded
  • In order to receive credit for courses taken elsewhere, you must submit official transcripts from the institution you attended. Send all transcripts to:
    Office of the Registrar
    University of California, Merced
    5200 N. Lake Rd. Merced, CA 95343
  • Courses taken at another UC campus are counted in the cumulative GPA and units
  • Courses taken outside the UC (Community College, CSU, and other 4-year Universities) are not included in the total GPA, but can be used to clear requirements

SSHA Course Articulation Process

If you will be taking a course at another institution over the summer and would like it evaluated for applicability to your academic program, you will need to submit a Course Approval Form along with the syllabus for the course. Submit all material at least 2 months prior to enrollment. Articulation decisions can take a minimum of 8 weeks after submission.
